RUN TO GAWLER
30th August 2020
By Steve Spong & John Roach

As you can probably tell from the number of hard tops and non-MGs, the weather promised to be a bit ordinary. True to predictions we were met with showers throughout the day, some pretty heavy too, making the older car wipers struggle a bit.
Also, not in an MG were the Roachs. John, having finished refurbishing and respraying both a B GT and a Roadster over these past Covid months, has now sold them both! He’s therefore now on the lookout for his next project, so if you know of a tired B….
Due to the current SA Government regulations, and to ensure no possible authority concerns over our gatherings, I had registered as a Covid Marshall. Oh what power! However as everyone was well behaved and appropriately elbowed one another from a safe distance, my power role was somewhat of a non-event.
Anyway, to the day. We set off from Veale Gardens and headed up a quiet King William Street on our way out of town. Here we were joined by a gentleman in a very shiny, very new, very black Bentley. He pulled along side me at the lights and indicated I wind down my window. Needless to say my hand winding was slower and less stylish than his push button job, but he wanted to say how great our cars all looked and that he was a fan of such old cars. That was very decent of him and I too commented that I thought his car was pretty nice too, as it most certainly was.
So, the route. From the CBD we headed out along North East Road, turning into Range Road near Lower Hermitage, where we were joined by the northern contingent. Then we headed through Upper Hermitage and out along One Tree Hill Road, and eventually across to Gawler. Finishing at Clonlea Park to the north of the main town.
Whilst the weather could have been a little better, it was another good Club breakfast run, and it was great to see Alan Foweraker out and about, and looking very well, after his recent serious stroke.
