MGB-REGISTER – SOUTHERN FLEURIEU PENINSULA RUN – 21/3/21
March 21 @ 10:30 am - 2:30 pm
This event is being held on the first available Sunday after the publication of the first MGCC magazine for 2021 that didn’t clash with another car club event or a long weekend. I’ve devised a route that zig-zags north and south for 130km across the Fleurieu Peninsula from Normanville to Langhorne Creek.
This should be far enough to blow the cobwebs off without being arduous, so make sure to fill your petrol tanks before leaving home.
All MGBs (other MG models welcome) will depart from the Normanville Kiosk at 10:30 on Sunday the 21st of March.
Feel free to arrive earlier and get in one last cup of coffee for the morning or take a short stroll along the beach.
Park wherever you can in the large carpark and congregate at the tourist information board at the opposite end of the grassed area from the Kiosk, where I’ll hand out the route map and instructions.
A couple of club members kindly supplied route suggestions for runs on the Fleurieu that have been done previously which saved me time and petrol in plotting this run. This is a new course but I’ve taken inspiration from the suggestions and included some sections of the previous runs into this one.
Hopefully, most participants won’t need to use the map & instructions because I hope that everyone will continually be in visual contact with the car ahead and behind. The instructions are there for just-in-case situations. We won’t have to worry about traffic lights splitting our convoy.
As with the MGB-Register’s “City of Adelaide” to Birdwood run, I’ll take the tail end position in the convoy, with a boot full of spare parts and tools, so I’d like a confident volunteer to take the lead position in the convoy, to follow the written instructions to our lunch destination.
Shortly after leaving Normanville, we’ll drive across the dam wall of the Myponga Reservoir and stop in the scenic lookout carpark to take some group photographs of our MGBs. I’d also like to take individual photographs of MGBs to put onto the club’s website, to replace the temporary photos of Dutch or UK cars which are there currently. Concours cars won’t necessarily take precedence for selection but at least make sure that your MGB has been washed and is presented nicely for the photo. It’s amazing what a difference something as simple as Tyre Black can do for a car’s appearance.
The run will officially finish at The Winehouse restaurant in Langhorne Creek, which was recommended by other club members and also given a successful “test drive” by me. We’re booked in at 1pm in the restaurant and have been offered their standard, group booking menu as follows;
· TRIO OF DIPS
Selection of 3 dips, toasted ciabatta, flatbread & crackers.
Then order from the options below on the day as your main course:
· PISTACHIO & SESAME CRUSTED CHICKEN
Served on a garden salad with peas, roast capsicum, red onion, feta and avocado with salsa verde & aioli.
· PORK SCALLOPINE
With a creamy mushroom sauce, chips and a garden salad.
· SA GARFISH (GF Option Available)
Panko crumbed OR Meechi beer battered with fresh garden salad, house made tartare & beer battered chips.
· GNOCCHI (Vegetarian option available)
Soft potato dumplings in a creamy sauce with bacon, mushrooms, roast pumpkin, chives, thyme & parmesan.
Drinks can be purchased through their Cellar Door on the day, wine by the bottle or glass, and beers on tap or in a bottle.
The cost of the two course meal will be $35 per person.
The restaurant doesn’t accept individual payments for group bookings, so I’ll need to collect $35 from everyone on arrival.
No credit cards obviously, so please have cash ready on the day.
After lunch, everyone can disperse as they please, either taking the winding way home or using the quicker route via the SE Freeway towards Adelaide or other major roads of your preference.
I need to provide confirmed lunch numbers to the restaurant at the end of February.
Contact me at MG-B@bigpond.com to advise me that you’ll be attending, & if you’d like to have your MGB featured on the club’s website & if you’re happy to lead the convoy on the run.
I’m looking forward to seeing you all on the day.
