MGF & Modern MG`s 25th Anniversary Run
May 30 @ 10:30 am - 3:30 pm
MGF & Modern MGs Run for the MGF 25th Anniversary, 30/05/2021
From: Haydn Reynolds
The morning of the 30th of May presented the participants with the prospect of perfect weather for the scheduled MGF 25th anniversary run. It promised to be a great day and that promise was fulfilled.
Assembling at Veal Gardens (the Breakfast Run having departed earlier) the compound which soon up awash with MGFs MGF/TFs and other Modern MGs. Just prior to departure, the upper car park was so full of Register cars that the driver of SUV asked if Volvos were allowed to park there. Also, a Porsche Boxter driver, no doubt confused by the mid-engine stance of the MGFs (and possibly poor eyesight) came into the car park and then immediately left.
The Run was in two parts, Part 1 was from Veale Gardens to Lobethal, where the participants regrouped and had the option of a Coffee. Part 2 was from Lobethal to the Cudlee Creek Tavern (and Lunch) via an approximation of the route of the Lobethal Grand Prix Track. While the route identified for Part 1 was generally adhered to, an absence of (what turned out to be) key information in the Run Sheet I had prepared, led to a more varied approach to Part 2.
However, foreknowledge of needing to get to Cudlee Creek Tavern in time for lunch ensured that everyone was at the Tavern in good time, having had an enjoyable drive touring the Lobethal/Mt Torrens area. On arrival the participants were marshalled into position for photos by Dick Manning and our ‘event photographer’ Neil Williams.
The pub-grub lunches were delivered in a timely manner by the friendly staff at the Tavern (quite a feat with nearly 50 people) and enjoyed by all. During the meal, MGF and MGF/TF owners were encouraged to tell outrageous stories about what they were going to do to their cars, while other Run participants were reminded that while the day was about the MGF, this year is the 20th Anniversary of the ‘Z-Cars’ and the 10th Anniversary of the MG3, while the MG1100 present only had to wait until next year for its 60th! On this day, it lined up with and MG ZT, an MG3 and an MG ZS EV to present 59 years of front wheel drive MGs!
Plenty of reasons for more events. The prospect of which went down well with the assembled throng. Dick Manning even managed to generate the prospect of 4 new Club Memberships for people attending as guests.
A good day all round – and the weather remained perfect for the drive home (hoods down for those with the option).
